Biblical Quotes About Worry

Do you worry? You are certainly not alone. Worry is a natural response towards events or situations we are not clear about or that we feel we have no control over. Maybe we feel that by worrying (or negatively focusing) about a situation, we are somehow trying to resolve it  But the more we focus on a situation (real or imagined), the more it becomes implanted in our mind and begins to take on magnified proportions.

And worry is counterproductive because it actually doesn’t resolve the issue and can often make things worse. It can wreck our health, our relationships, our ability to cope with everyday tasks and much more. Worry is a shining example of how we can easily lose control over ourselves and our lives. Most of what we worry about will never actually materialize and will probably sort itself out if we let go of the worrying.

It is not for nothing that the Bible is very adamant on the importance of not worrying. In fact, Jesus clearly said: “Do not worry”

Here are some verses from the Bible dealing with worry and its antithesis: Trust.

Matthew 6:34  “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Philippians 4:6-7  do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 55:22  Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved

Psalm 121:1-2  I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

Romans 8:31  What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Psalm 112:7 They will have no fear of bad news;  their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

Psalm 55:22  Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved

Proverbs 12:25 Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.

Hebrews 12:1-2  Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,  fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer, and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 13:6 So we can confidently say,  “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”

Luke 21:14-15, 18-19 But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict….  But not a hair of your head will perish. Stand firm, and you will win life.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

2 Thessalonians 3:16  Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.

1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Psalm 23:4  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Proverbs 3:5-6   Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Matthew 6:25-27  “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?”
